International Thud Tournament 2008

Druid

Hey Y'all,

Yes, it's been a while, but the ITT has never been far from our minds. It just took a bit of planning, and that part is in its final stage.
Keep your eye on this thread, Lee will announce ITT08 and its only slightly edited rules in here shortly. I hope to see all the regulars, plus a lot of of new faces that weren't able to join us for ITT07.
I will try to set up the --empty, for now-- pages on my site tomorrow, but I was too excited to wait to tell you.

Happy Thudding!

Well my first reaction was "HURRAH"

My second reaction was more filled with terror... I don't see myself defending my title successfully, and it has been nice to be able to say I'm the world champion in something Wink. All in all, though, looking forward to it.

Re: International Thud Tournament 2008

Druid

Hey Y'all,

Just back from thudgame central, so to speak. I have had word that Lee is too busy with his new job, and Dewi is too busy coding. So you'll have to settle with me. I know, I know, I'm not nearly as handsome, but hey, can't have it all, right? But I have full support of both of them, so it's OK.

Soooo, my first decision as official head of ITT08 is: y'all need to sign up with me. Visit my site (see the signature) for contact info, if you don't already have it. Please do not email Lee or Dewi, all contacts must go by me this year.
Also on my site: a new page concerning ITT08, with a new slightly improved set of rules. Please read it carefully (I have provided a download). A detailed timetable can be found over there as well. If all goes according to plan we'll have a new Thudmeister 08 a few days before Christmas.

Dewi and I also agreed that you should know and understand that there is a probability that this years ITT is Forum Only!!! Dewi is working like crazy to get the client fixed, but he can't promise anything. So now more than ever do you need to understand that you probably have to stick to the 24-hour rule from two to six or maybe eight weeks. Duration depends on how far you get onto the ladder to Thudmeistership, and number of players. You need to know this, and have to be sure!
I repeat: live games are probably not possible for the duration of the entire ITT08!

Well, having said that, there's only one thing for you to do now. Go to my site, or contact me directly, and let me know you join the International Thud Tournament 2008. As ever, only paying thudgame dot com members, AKA The Thudguild, need apply.

Also I would like to thank Dewi and Lee for their trust and confidence. I will try my best to not let them down.

Happy Thudding!

Yeah, when I tell people I'm international champion in a boardgame, I tend not to mention that there were only 8 players... and that arguably the best player couldn't finish the tournament...

Re: International Thud Tournament 2008

Yay Ratty!

Hi Y'all.

It occurred to me that some of you might consider joining ITT08, if not for the 24-hour rule and Hogswatch Wincanton.
Well, I've had a word with the people who already joined, and they all agree that a pause in ITT08 for Wincanton Hogswatch is a good idea. So y'all please have a look at the new timetable on my site, and maybe you can join us in ITT08.
The ITT08 will be paused on friday 28th of november, 11 am sharp, and restarted on december 1st, 11 am sharp (plus any hours left of your 24). The rest of the tournament will move accordingly, with the end of (semi-)Final one day before Roundworld Hogswatch.

List of ITT08 players:
AltogetherAndrews, Mr Scrub, Hexon, Palm, and Ratdeath. Five. An odd number, and what's worse, a prime. We need at least one more please, many would be even better, lots I can only dream off.

Just Two Rounds? Where's the fun in that? Nah, let's just wait a few more days, and if that is inconclusive I could probably write a message to former players/enthousiasts (Magrat springs to mind, Aine as well) to see if they can be coaxed into joining.

Hi Y'all,

Oh gods....
It seems I missed the most important part...
I was under the impression that we had another week. My timescale (I had to check myself) says today should have been the start. Oh bugger.
I'm deeply, deeply ashamed. This is inexcusable.
Please, please, please allow me to think this through, and see how we can get seven players to start tomorrow?
And please allow me to keep this short, I feel very stupid and exposed........

Re: International Thud Tournament 2008

Druid

Hi Y'all,

The terror was too much... I couldn't stand making such a terrible mistake.
I figured out a way to get ITT08 started in a few minutes, and acted accordingly.
I will play in Round One. There is no other way I could think of in such short notice. However, all of the players will play three simultaneous doubles as usual. All it needed was one extra, to complete the set. So: very randomly, AltogetherAndrews was chosen to be the one to play one double against yours truly. I won't make it to Round Two, the statistics are against me from the start, but I will do my best to make it a good game, promised.
Posts have been started, whoever sees first gets first post.
Good luck to everyone, and

@AA: LOL!

Hi Y'all,

Tomorrow evening I'm making time to get the saves page up and running. Could y'all please send me saves tomorrow afternoon?

It would be a great help if you could stick to this format:

date and time of last moves
node-ITT08a-firstdwarf-firsttroll and
node-ITT08b-seconddwarf-secondtroll
(node = the number your game has in the URL)

example:
nov 12, 21 pm GMT
1895-ITT08a-OB-AA.thud
1895-ITT08b-AA-OB.thud

This little effort on your side could save me tons of work* checking and rechecking, and renaming. Thanks for the help!

Hi Y'all,

Psychological Warfare! I like it, keep it up folks.
A copy from an e-mail I sent a few minutes ago:

Quote:

Hi Y'all,

Oh bliss! Thank you all so very much! Everyone who sent in saves sticked to the format I suggested. You made my evening at the keyboard a lot shorter than it used to be in other years.
Saves have been uploaded and mid-scored. Games without scores still give dead links.

That's it for todays session, everyone who still needs to send saves: tomorrow is fine too, or probably even better. Stick to the format, please, I could get very used to that Very Happy.

A PS to AltogetherAndrews: the saves you sent had a bit of future strategy in them as well. I removed the strategies. Next time only strategies in OB games please? Very Happy. Don't worry, there weren't any in those. I wonder why....

Hi Y'all,

I'm sorry, but I've got a bit of bad news...
Hexon sent me an e-mail to tell me he had to resign:

Hexon wrote:

Due to unfortunate, unforeseen circumstances (computer trouble!), I'm afraid I will have to drop out of ITT08, as it is unlikely I will be able to get to the library where I am writing this often enough to post moves.
I am sorry to all involved, and can you pass on the message, with my regrets.
I hope you do not take this as cowardice, although I am at a disadvantage in all my games, for they are more than worthy opponents :~)

Yours sorrily (Is that a real word?)
Hexon

Sooooo, what I need first is savegames by all involved; ie Ratdeath, Palm and Mr Scrub (no need MS, yours arived today).
The trouble is, in a system like last years all players in Hexon's Heat would have been equally involved and all it needed was to take him out of the equation. This year however, with all players randomly playing each other, some are involved and some are not.
I do not know of a fair way to solve this problem. The only thing I can do is score the games Hexon was in, as far as they got. Not much points for Ratty, MS and Palm, but at least some. Doling out compensation points would not be fair to others.
Unless someone has any better ideas (please?) this is the best I can do.
In the meantime, all of Hexons games are locked.

Uploaded today: three Mr Scrub games.
