why is nobody using this site? is it cause nobody has any time? i think the admins should promote it a bit, maybe put a few adverts out. I dont mind if this site has adverts on it to make a bit of money. If it helps the site grow, it is a bonus. if you made a banner and gave a html code for it, i could promote it really fast.

Why don't we make a (some?) banner(s)? Anyone want to play around with a little bit of light graphic design, to make a few good thudgame.com banners or button we can put on our own sites to link here?

Weeeeellll, you could say that the Admins created a site that has the largest membership of any Discworld website out there, that has top search engine results, has all the user-generated-content bits one could want - it's now up to the community to big it up. You might say, but don't say it just yet. Let's just make sure we've done all we can first....
So what could we add on to the site to make it sticky?
Some of the things we've talked about:
* Getting "getgame" to work so that you could play "AJAX"ified Thud in the forums
* Getting "getgame" playback to work again
* Put other 1-player games onsite
* Have more contests like the banner comp (but that aren't too complicated like "redesign the site comp")
* Treasure hunts onsite
* other stuff - add to the list and we'll see what (literally) we can do
Dewi and I are incredibly busy (he's trying to get married on the other side of the world, I'm trying to keep family fed and sheltered in a bad recession) so it's tough sitting in on the site as much as before. Please hang in there and help us out if you can

So, my banner got ruined! i must have missed out a forward slash or something!
Anyway, i will get to work making another. BETTER ONE!
i really think thudpoints should come back for posting as that is what made me stay! when i stayed, i found that it was a good laugh and it was fun to post AND get points!
So i think sorting out top ten members by points will make people stay and then they will become gradually more interested in it! like me!
The fact that dewi will be making a code too spend them on, does not excite me terribly(no offence) and I know he has a marriage to be getting on with, so I know its not going to happen for a LONG time.
My ideas for getting this site more exciting are these!
1. THUDPOINTS!
2. getting some more competitions going
3. I would like to(with permission from dewi or lee) to write a monthly/weekly newsletter, depending on how much time I have that will send to every member! That may get em back on and posting on topics they find more interesting.
That are my ideas for now. I appreciate that the admins have a life, and maybe they should share the load on too a really trusted friend or something, and have 3 or 4 admins. Maybe your wives/uncles have some spare time?
Anyway, that my rant for today.

thing is, we got rid of the points for posting in the first place because they encouraged a competition for being the first on the list and as a result masses of almost-spam and off topic posts. that might be fun for those who participate in this kind of nonsense, but not for the mods who have to sort through it or for newbies who are discouraged by the mass of irrelevant chatter they get as reply to a serious question.
that's what druids and librarians are here for. to take some of the load off the admins shoulders. the problem is, there's not much to take, because nothing is happening. to make something happen, we'd need those improvements, which in turn need someone with the technical/programming knowledge and the time to something about it. and of course they'd have to do it for free, because this site probably costs more than it earns already.
do you even know what dewi's working on? CITIES!! i think that'd be cool, assuming of course we can get enough active members for more than one tiny village...

Didn't we have adverts before on the site? Even some Google adds at the top-right would bring in some cash to help with server expenses etc.
